BMO has anchored its future ambition on the use of Data and Analytics across the Bank. In their current mandate, the Data and Analytics team (DnA), under the leadership of the Enterprise Chief Data and Analytics Officer is accountable for developing the broader strategy for DnA along with capabilities in support of the efforts of the Bank.

In order to drive effective data management and promote the responsible use of advanced analytics (e.g., AI and Machine Learning), DnA Governance owns the development and implementation of the policies, procedures, and forums for the Enterprise. We do this with a focus to ultimately improve customer trust, establish effective data management practices, and support Data & Analytics led growth within a responsible framework that safeguards the bank’s assets.

  • Fosters a culture aligned to BMO purpose, values and strategy and role models BMO values and behaviours in all that they do.

  • Policy – lead the development of policies to advance adoption of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Robotics Process Automation, and effective Data Management Practices

  • Frameworks and Procedures – provide thought leadership and establish pragmatic frameworks to advance the responsible application of Data Management and Analytics practices e.g., Trustworthy or Ethical AI

  • Ensures alignment between values and behaviour that fosters diversity and inclusion.

  • Acts as a subject matter expert on relevant regulations and policies.

  • Leads the identification, analysis and resolution of issues, recommending appropriate solutions.

  • Leads working groups to identify opportunities and formulate data governance solutions.

  • Conducts independent analysis and assessment to resolve strategic issues.

  • Develops the business case by identifying needs, analysing potential options and assessing expected return on investment.

  • Recommends business priorities, advises on resource requirements and develops roadmap for strategic execution.

  • Supports and governs a data governance implementation road map including strategic priorities.

  • Collaborates with stakeholders to identify business requirements and opportunities for improved data management.

  • Acts as the prime subject matter expert for internal/external stakeholders.

  • Conducts needs assessments, identifies gaps and provides suggestions to improve and streamline data governance & management processes based on operational insights.

  • Maintains Data Quality governance, guidelines, and standards. Validates and monitors compliance and effectiveness of data management processes.

  • Implements, maintains and reviews processes to ensure quality and integrity of data and ensure compliance with Bank and regulatory requirements.

  • Contributes to data management & governance strategies and policies.

  • Leads working groups to identify opportunities and formulate recommendations for improving enterprise data governance capabilities and processes, and work with applicable parties to plan, design and implement approved recommendations.

  • Leads change management programs of varying scope and type, including readiness assessments, planning, stakeholder management, execution, evaluation and sustainment of initiatives.

  • Leads the development of the communication strategy focusing on positively influencing or changing behaviour.

  • Collaborates across BMO to develop communications strategies and ensure consistency of messaging, in order to positively influence or change behaviour.

  • Mentors employees to foster professional development.

  • Designs and implements strategies to monitor the effectiveness of data management & governance programs and identify, manage and mitigate current and emerging risks.

  • Develops tools and delivers training programs for data management to ensure alignment on the value proposition and need for data management & governance.

  • Supports the management of BMO’s data as a key asset that facilitates effective decision making.

  • Contributes to the development of data strategies and data governance policies, procedures and processes.

  • Performs database and application tuning and capacity planning in order to verify that the business requirements are met within the SLA (Service Level Agreement) and standards.

  • Develops data solutions and makes recommendations based on an understanding of the business strategy and stakeholder needs.

  • Provides advice and guidance to assigned business/group on implementation of data solutions.

  • Identifies and implements the optimum means to collect, process, analyze and report on information and ensure ongoing accuracy, integrity and security.

  • Participates in the timely resolution of operating/technical problems or manages escalation with other BMO technical groups.

  • Assists in the identification of change impacts through requirements gathering, mapping and documenting current and proposed processes.

  • Provides support to projects and/or manages operational changes including supporting Technology with the validation and testing of enterprise managed systems.

  • Provides support on data management process implementation and sustainment activities to ensure stakeholder awareness and adoption of data governance in work including but not limited to development of business tools, end use procedure documentation.

  • Breaks down strategic problems, and analyses data and information to provide insights and recommendations.

  • Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders and ensures alignment.

  • Supports development and execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Operates at a group/enterprise-wide level and serves as a specialist resource to senior leaders and stakeholders.

  • Applies expertise and thinks creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations and to find solutions to problems that can be complex and non-routine.

  • Implements changes in response to shifting trends.

  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ Years experience in Data Governance, Data Management, Analytics or Robotics Process Automation

  • Governance, regulatory, audit, risk, and internal controls especially with a focus on Data & Analytics

  • Experience in Financial Services a plus

  • Experience in project planning and execution, including scoping, budgeting, and risk / issue management

  • Bachelor’s degree with concentration in computer science, engineering, information systems, information technology or other related majors such as business & administration. Master’s degree in these concentrations is desirable.
