The Regional Director of Supervision is accountable to ensure that the region meets all of its compliance supervision requirements as the designee for regulatory supervision of all its registrants in the region. This role is also accountable to provide advice and guidance to registrants regarding applicable policies, processes and other key execution activities in conjunction with the Market Leaders (matrix) within the region.

The Regional Director of Supervision will provide strategic supervision leadership support to the whole region and /or to a designated group of branches depending on the needs of the region.

By ensuring strong execution of supervision activities in the region, the Regional Director of Supervision assists in enhancing the adherence to compliance with the policies and procedures & strategic initiatives of the Firm.

Accountable for managing a high performing regional supervision team and IIROC registered location supervisor for all registrants within the region.

Accountable to execute the Firm’s direction on key supervision matters including regional business planning, communications/presentations, training and change management to achieve overall regulatory objectives

A key member of the regional leadership team, The Regional Director of Supervision is accountable to lead and execute on national initiatives within the region and provide regular feedback to the National Director, Branch Supervision.

The Regional Director of Supervision:

  • Supports sales supervision activities and regulatory activities for designated branches to meet all the regulatory requirements

  • Manages people and leads a team capable of delivering the desired business results.

  • Supports the resolution of escalated supervisory issues as required.

  • Provides strategic input into business decisions as a trusted advisor.

  • Makes recommendations to senior leaders on strategy and new initiatives, based on an in-depth understanding of the business/group.

  • Acts as a subject matter expert on relevant regulations and policies.

  • May network with industry contacts to gain competitive insights and best practices.

  • Makes recommendations to management about risk and regulatory requirements and supervision.

  • Translates group initiatives into tactical plans for execution in the region and at the branch level.

  • Manages resources and leads the execution of strategic initiatives to deliver on business and financial goals.

  • Recommends business priorities, advises on resource requirements and develops roadmap for strategic execution.

  • Acts as the prime subject matter expert for internal/external stakeholders.

  • Monitors and tracks performance and addresses any issues.

  • Breaks down strategic problems, and analyses data and information to provide insights and recommendations.

  • Leads the effective implementation of supervision initiatives and programs for the region.

  • Leads or participates in defining the communication plan designed to positively influence or change behaviour; develops tailored messaging; and identifies appropriate distribution channels.

  • Acts as the location supervisor for registrants is the region and is accountable for all supervision tasks.

  • Accountable for all required supervision activities including but not limited to outside business activities, attestations and regulatory complaints.

  • Directs the development of supervision contingency plans to support stable operations both at the region and branch level.

  • Oversees and approves changes Policies and Procedures Manual as required by internal and external changes.

  • Leads the execution of regional supervision programs; assesses and adapts as needed to ensure quality of execution.

  • Performs supervision activities to meet regulatory requirements and maintain service level standards.

  • Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders.

  • Ensures alignment between stakeholders.

  • Follows through on risk and supervision processes and policies to ensure we safeguard our customers’ assets, maintain their privacy, act in their best interests, and ensure an effectively run function.

  • Protects the Bank's assets and complies with all regulatory, legal and ethical requirements.

  • Operates at a group/enterprise-wide level and serves as a specialist resource to senior leaders and stakeholders.

  • Applies expertise and thinks creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations and to find solutions to problems that can be complex and non-routine.

  • Implements changes in response to shifting trends.

  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

    Knowledge & Skills:


  • University degree or equivalent

  • CSC and CPH (WME and RR Licensing Preferred or willing to obtain)

  • IIROC Branch Manager proficiency and registration required

  • Options Supervisor proficiency and registration required

  • US Securities proficiency (Series 7, 24 & SIE) will need to obtain once in role

  • At least 7-10 years of experience in a senior compliance/ trade supervision role in an IIROC regulated Firm


  • People management skills

  • Proven ability to understand regulatory, legal and risk concepts and execute Firm’s policies and procedures per business requirements.

  • Strong organizational and professional leadership skills and the ability to effectively organize a process with high visibility and multiple deliverables with specific and time sensitive deadlines

  • Strong knowledge of the Canadian financial services and business operations.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (French language skills an asset)
