Provides advisory-based investment strategies to attract, retain and grow BMO Family Office portfolio of prospect and client relationships and deliver an exceptional client experience.
The Investment Strategist is a critical partner for Investment Counsellors and Investment Advisors who have clients or prospects at the Family Office threshold ($30MM+ AUM) and request assistance in differentiating for this client segment. The Strategist will be an expert in the overall Family Office investment strategy with a specific focus on Alternative Investments. The Strategist will work with Advisors to deliver best-in-class investment thinking, robust performance reporting capabilities, direct research team access, and the full suite of additional Family Office services.
As part of the relationship team, the Investment Strategist will evaluate the clients’ personal and investment needs in collaboration with the Investment Advisors and Counsellors, with respect to overarching asset allocation strategy and implementation.
Develops internal and external networks and referral sources to grow business in the assigned portfolio / jurisdiction.
Oversees the implementation and delivery of business development strategies.
Enhances presence in the marketplace by collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to create integrated business development strategies.
Advises on investment strategies to clients, in collaboration with Advisors & Counsellors.
Provides expert investment management support for peers, clients and investment community.
Provides insight and shares expertise with team members about investing, financial planning and non-traditional financial instruments such as futures, options, structured products, private equity, hedge funds, etc.
Recommends business priorities, advises on resource requirements and develops roadmap for strategic execution.
Supports the execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
Acts as the prime subject matter expert for internal/external stakeholders.
Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
Ensures alignment between stakeholders.
Monitors and tracks performance, and addresses any issues.
Designs and produces regular and ad-hoc reports, and dashboards.
Oversees the implementation of client strategies, management of investment portfolios and ongoing evaluation of performance.
Provides input into the planning and implementation of operational programs.
Manages and continually enhances the client experience through strong relationship management.
Performs sales and service support activities to meet client needs and maintain overall service levels.
Identifies new business opportunities and acquires referrals from existing book of business.
Implements business development strategies to acquire new business.
Follows through on the risk and compliance processes and policies to ensure we safeguard our customers’ assets, maintain their privacy, act in their best interests, and ensure an effectively run function.
Protects the Bank's assets and complies with all regulatory, legal, and ethical requirements.
Identifies and recommends ways to enhance the client experience.
Operates at a group/enterprise-wide level and serves as a specialist resource to senior leaders and stakeholders.
Applies expertise and thinks creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations and to find solutions to problems that can be complex and non-routine.
Implements changes in response to shifting trends.
Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.
Typically 7+ years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation is desirable.
Registered Investment Counsellor (IC) and / or Portfolio Management (PM) in the jurisdiction where operating.
Expert experience in discretionary money management for High Net Worth Individuals (HNW).
Expert business development experience with successful track record.
Seasoned professional with a combination of education, experience and industry knowledge.
Bilingualism (French/English) a strong asset.
