Do you have experience as an IT Auditor? Then this is the job for you!! This role is very similar to an IT Auditor; however, you would be directly supporting our business partners in the first line of defense.

In the Information Technology Control Testing position, you will play a key role in supporting the first line of defense by executing issue remediating testing engagements to provide insights, recommendations and enhancement opportunities relative to processes, risks and controls. You will be able to further advance your technical skills by performing control testing over a variety of applications, databases and platforms.

Executes testing to provide insights and recommendations on test results, findings, identified issues, re-performance testing, and continuous improvement insights. Will execute issue remediation testing of various complexity based on the approved agreement by Management. The Information Technology Control Tester must focus on testing control activities within the first line of defense and work across applicable functional departments.

  • Executes testing and fieldwork to perform, analyze, document and report results of all assigned reviews.

  • Collaborates with internal partners to advise on potential actions to close gaps identified, based on knowledge and experience gained in testing other areas with similar controls.

  • Supports the execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Conducts independent analysis and assessment to resolve strategic issues.

  • Drives positive change in based on high quality work and thought leadership in the control testing approach including identifying ways in which to increase efficiency.

  • Performs highly complex reviews of business artifacts.

  • Executes testing and fieldwork that is complex in nature that requires a subject matter expertise.

  • Executes identified test programs for a variety of specializations to support effective testing & monitoring of controls within business groups and across the Bank.

  • Executes testing activities and any other operational activities within required service level agreements or standards.

  • Develops knowledge related to program and/or area of specialty.

  • Develops and maintains effective relationships with internal & external business partners/stakeholders to execute work and fulfill service delivery expectations.

  • Supports change management of varying scope and type; tasks typically focused on execution and sustainment activities.

  • Executes various operational activities/requirements to ensure timely, accurate, and efficient service delivery.

  • Ensures consistent, high quality practices/work and the achievement of business results in alignment with business/group strategies and with productivity goals.

  • Analyzes root causes of any errors discovered to provide for effective communication of issues to appropriate parties.

  • Develops insights and recommends continuous improvement insights based on test results.

  • Creates and maintains high-quality testing documentation, such as test plans, workpapers, evidence, etc. to support the results of the testing, including the write-up of findings/issues for reporting.

  • Provides ongoing support to the continuous improvement process of the business unit.

  • Focus is primarily on business/group within BMO; may have broader, enterprise-wide focus.

  • Exercises judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules.

  • Works independently on a range of complex tasks, which may include unique situations.

  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.


  • Typically between 2-4 years of relevant risk, controls testing, or audit experience and University degree/college diploma in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Solid understanding of processes, risks and controls.

  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including intermediate Excel skills (i.e. pivot tables, formulas, etc)

  • Technical proficiency gained through education and/or business experience.

  • Ability to work independently and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
