About the team

The Interactive Solutions team is part of the BMO Design group, which operates in the same way as external design firms providing a complete set of strategic design and executional services. These services include advertising, direct marketing, and marketing collateral strategy and execution in both digital and print media; video production; conference and event creative strategy and execution; and web development. The BMO Design group operates in support of BMO lines of business revenue objectives of $20 billion per annum. It is also responsible for achieving cost avoidance goals in excess of $9 million per year.


Supports the design and front-end development of web solutions for the Marketing group. Brings design expertise and discipline to understanding users’ needs, creating new solutions and solving problems focused on campaign objectives. Works closely with Visual Designers, Creative Leads, Project Managers, Marketing Managers, and Technology stakeholders to support user experience improvements across multiple technologies and web properties. Ensures consistent application of BMO’s design system standards.

  • Provides advice and guidance on BMO design rationale, user experience issues, user-centered design practices and BMO design system standards.

  • Supports the execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders (Product, Technology, Corporate Support Areas, business partners, etc.).

  • Designs solutions; writes code; performs QA testing; develops design artifacts and documentation; and facilitates final delivery.

  • Support production issues, including independently completing root-cause analysis and diagnosis.

  • Implements existing design patterns, style guides, and accessibility guidelines, while contributing to their continuous improvement.

  • Decomposes user stories and translates them into detailed design specifications and code; deliver pixel-perfect functional templates based on designs provided.

  • Interacts with key business & technology stakeholders to define, analyze, and deliver requirements that reflect the needs of both the business and end-customers.

  • Supports the management of specific product backlog deliverables and outcomes, including managing individual backlog items to completion, as required delivering milestone objectives.

  • Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders.

  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to support planning, implementation and sustainment of the design operations. e.g. other design partners, researchers, digital product owners, technology partners.

  • Analyzes data and information to provide design insights and recommendations (e.g. industry best practices, client feedback, new vendor offerings, competitor practices, website, process and business metrics).

  • Implements metrics e.g. site behaviour metrics; tracking tags to provide information for performance measurement and reporting.

  • Participates in the design, implementation and management of core business/group processes.

  • Focus is primarily on Marketing business/group within BMO; may have broader, enterprise-wide focus.

  • Exercises judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules.

  • Works independently on a range of complex tasks, which may include unique situations.

  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.


  • Typically between 3 - 5 years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Knowledge of DevOps tools and practices.

  • Knowledge and interest in coding accessible websites; AODA and WCAG 2.0.

  • Experience with front-end development coding languages and technologies (HTML,CSS, Java Script).

  • Knowledge of asynchronous request handling, partial page updates, restful API and AJAX

  • Knowledge of User Experience / User Interface principles and best practices, user research techniques.

  • Technical proficiency gained through education and/or business experience.
