BMO GAM’s Responsible Investment team oversees the firm’s ESG initiatives and supports all investment teams in integrating ESG considerations into the investment process. In addition to supporting investment processes, the team owns and executes on BMO GAM’s firm wide commitments to responsible investment, develops thought leadership on emerging ESG topics and employs a progressive approach to active ownership activities. The team works with both internal and external stakeholders across all sales channels in both asset management and the wider wealth businesses.

The ESG Reporting and Communications Analyst consults on analytical solutions to understand, analyze, and synthesize requirements, goals and objectives relative to data and business intelligence needs and to enable high-quality, fact-based business decisions to drive better business outcomes. Supports the development of the strategy and roadmap for responsible investment data quality and reporting, business intelligence, and the design and development of sophisticated decision support tools.

Core responsibilities:

  • Supports development and execution of strategic responsible investment analytics & reporting initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders

  • Analyzes data and information to provide subject-matter insights and recommendations

  • Researches and translates responsible investment data, processes, frameworks and policies when reporting to third party membership organizations (e.g. UN PRI, CDP, CCGG and RIA)

  • Documents and maintain operational procedures and processes relating to analytical and reporting processes.

  • Supports development of Responsible Investment team’s internal and external guidelines, policies and frameworks

  • Develops solutions and makes recommendations based on an understanding of the business strategy and stakeholder needs.

  • Coordinates with BMO GAM’s Product, Strategy & Communications teams and BMO Financial Group on responsible investment related inquiries

  • Supports distribution teams on client requests, RFPs and DDQs related to responsible investment

  • Develops tools and delivers training programs for use of reporting tools and self-serve analytics by non-analytical end users; may include delivery of training to audiences.

  • Develops and maintains Responsible Investment repository of presentation materials (PPT) to be used with clients across all sales channels

  • Builds reports and visualizations to effectively communicate data driven insights to users for a variety of audiences e.g. visualization solutions of data into reports, graphics, dashboards to illustrate facts, trends, and insights.

  • Designs and produces regular and ad-hoc responsible investment reports, and dashboards

  • Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders. Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders in order to deliver on business objectives.

Customer Service Advisory

  • Manages the design, development, and implementation of responsible investment reporting requirements.

  • Identifies, recommends and implements solutions based on analysis of the market and implications for the business.

  • Ensures alignment between stakeholders about business needs and data needs.

  • Develops solutions and makes recommendations based on an understanding of responsible investment strategy and stakeholder needs.

  • Provides advice and guidance to assigned investment sectors or coverage area.

Strategy / Strategic Initiatives

  • Conducts independent analysis and assessment to contribute to the Responsible Investment team priorities or strategies to resolve strategic issues

Data Analytics

  • Breaks down strategic problems, and analyses data and information to provide subject matter insights and recommendations.

  • Leads/participates in the design, implementation and management of new analytics & reporting solutions. Designs, develops, and implements innovative reporting solutions.

  • Designs and produces regular and ad-hoc reports, and dashboards.

  • Structures and assembles data into multi-dimensions with various granularities (e.g., demographics, customers, products, transactions).

  • Monitors and tracks tool performance, user acceptance testing, and addresses any issues.

  • Integrates information from multiple sources to enable more efficient processes, enhanced analysis and/or streamlined reporting.


  • Employs systems (e.g. customized exception reports, tracking reports, etc.) to manage information.

  • Typically between 4 - 6 years of relevant experience and postsecondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Understands asset management industry and is proficient across investment asset classes

  • Passionate about responsible investment and ESG issues

  • Strong expertise using Excel and PPT when translating complex data into externally digestible communications; creative in building visual aids in both programmes

  • Knowledge and experience in data preparation, data analysis, and statistical tool sets

  • Technical proficiency gained through education and/or business experience.
