Corporate Treasury is responsible in finding the best ways for BMO to deploy its financial resources within regulatory guidelines and the bank's risk appetite. Treasury manages the allocation of financial resources, including liquidity, funding, and capital, ensuring financial resiliency and alignment with building a future-ready bank with leading profitability. Treasury teams are strategically focused, have a collaborative nature, and possess strong problem-solving skills.

Liquidity and Funding Management within Corporate Treasury is accountable for the measurement, analysis, and oversight of the Bank’s regulatory and internal liquidity and funding risks that arise from global business. The individual will partner with senior management to develop a solid understanding of business strategies and develop in-depth product, market and regulatory knowledge across retail and trading products. This knowledge will guide businesses and senior management on liquidity and funding risk mitigation, product development, and balance sheet optimization.

The candidate is part of a team that is accountable for the quantitative measurement and analysis of the bank’s liquidity and funding risks that arise from global business activities through the development of quantitative and stress testing models. This involves utilizing the latest modeling methodologies and applying those methodologies to build robust risk models to support Corporate Treasury’s liquidity risk framework and business decisions.

This role is primarily focused on the development and enhancement of a newly built liquidity risk measurement infrastructure. As part of this mandate, the candidate will focus on the implementation and maintenance of the models to:

systematically measure funding and liquidity risks across the Bank’s balance sheet, enhance key components of the existing frameworks, including liquidity risk assessment, measurement, limit methodology development, reporting, and support data-driven risk and business decision making initiatives.

Key responsibilities and requirements include

  • Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders.

  • Leads/participates in the design, implementation and management of new analytics & reporting solutions.

  • Designs, develops, and implements calculators and models for liquidity risk measures with innovative analytical solutions.

  • Designs and produces regular and ad-hoc reports, and dashboards.

  • Breaks down strategic problems, and analyses data and information to provide subject matter insights and recommendations.

  • Structures and assembles data into multi-dimensions with various granularities (e.g., customers, products, transactions, financial instruments).

  • Monitors and tracks tool performance, user acceptance testing, and addresses any issues.

  • Integrates information from multiple sources to enable more efficient processes, enhanced analysis and/or streamlined reporting.

  • Builds reports and visualizations to effectively communicate data driven insights to users for a variety of audiences e.g. visualization solutions of data into reports, graphics, dashboards to illustrate facts, trends, and insights.

  • Develops solutions and makes recommendations based on an understanding of the business strategy and stakeholder needs.

  • Supports development and execution of strategic analytics & reporting initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Develops tools and delivers training programs for use of reporting tools and self-serve analytics by non-analytical end users; may include delivery of training to audiences.

  • Documents and maintain operational procedures and processes relating to analytical and reporting processes.

  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders in order to deliver on business objectives.

  • Exercises judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules.

  • Works independently on a range of complex tasks, which may include unique situations.

  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications and skills:

  • Typically between 5 - 7 years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Knowledge and experience in data preparation, data analysis, and financial modelling and statistical tool including but not limited to PowerBI, SQL, SAS, R, Python, Spark.

  • Technical proficiency of financial products gained through education and/or business experience.
