The successful candidate will be accountable to work in a DevOps team to develop analytical tools for use by BMO Capital Markets front-office to manage exposures and make trading decisions. The role is for a full-stack developer who is ready to dive into a modern tool chain of development and automation tools to build and operate complete front to back solutions for capital markets.

  • Aggregating, organizing and analyzing market and trade data to facilitate a wide range of reporting, from high-level business overviews down to trade-level details.

  • Integrating custom applications with front office trading platforms and market data vendors.

  • Maintenance and upgrading of existing software and server structure.

  • Interact and build relationships with various groups across the firm (trading desks, risk management, middle office, etc.).

  • Become familiar with in-house financial pricing library.

  • Troubleshoot and solve problems within a very short timeframe.


Key determinants

  • Very good software development and software design skills (C#, C++, Java, JavaScript, Python)

  • Web development such as REST API

  • Familiarity with database design and queries - Oracle/SQL

  • University degree in a technical field such as computer science, mathematics, physics, statistics or engineering.

  • Understanding of financial pricing models and valuation of derivative products.

  • Familiarity with financial data providers (Bloomberg, Reuters).

  • Able to exercise independent thought and judgment and adapt to new tasks with little notice.

  • Strong technical writing and business analysis capabilities.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to deal effectively with a wide range of colleagues. This includes other technical professionals, programmers, traders, senior management, mid/back office, and risk management.

  • Strong attention to detail is paramount.

Your application must include a working version the game "rock, paper, scissors" in the language of your choice. The game should be for a single player competing against the computer. In order to keep the exercise as simple as possible error handling and other niceties may be omitted. Clearly state the programming language used. If you are selected for an interview be prepared to write working applications for real world problems as part of the assessment process.
