BMO Financial Group VP, Corporate Banking- Power Utilities & Infrastructure (PU&I) team in New York, New York

The Power Utilities & Infrastructure (PU&I) team at BMO Capital Markets is a sector lending group within Investment & Corporate Banking. PU&I’s mandate is to support the broader Investment & Corporate Banking platform by providing expertise through sector and product coverage, and leveraged transactions. PU&I is supported by a portfolio management team and is seeking an entry level VP to support the platform.

Job Description: VP will support the team lead and be responsible for various portfolio management activities of the PU&I vertical. The position requires an individual who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and has a proven track record of coordinating internal and external teams to meet both transaction and internal deadlines. The individual will be responsible various aspects of the ongoing portfolio management of the PU&I loan portfolio. The ability to work independently as well as lead the portfolio management team with minimal guidance under time constraints will be a key differentiator of success.

Key Sector Skills:

  • Fundamental understanding of relevant aspects of financial modelling for the sector, including preparing and explaining credit scenarios and sensitivities, key metrics, and summary outputs

  • Experience with the sector vertical including sponsor backed financings. These include but are not limited to:

  • Credit analysis

  • Risk and return analysis

  • Loan structuring and negotiation

  • Due diligence

  • Credit documentation support (financing agreements, term sheets, etc.)

  • Financial closing coordination

  • AML/KYC and client onboarding activities and coordination

  • Virtual data room (VDR) management

Portfolio Management:

  • Lead annual reviews of loan portfolio, maintain borrower monthly and quarterly compliance reporting, and respond to internal / external audits

  • Monitor and support portfolio of power, utilities and infrastructure, including consent / waiver / amendment processes, and other credit events that may impact the borrower

  • Considers risk, internal controls and compliance as part of day-to-day accountabilities and adheres to policies and procedures

  • Lead preparation of credit documentation (i.e., applications, memoranda, presentations, etc.) for risk committees

  • Summarize diligence materials to develop and produce coherent recommendations and identify key risks and mitigants

  • Coordinate with credit and operations teams for ongoing maintenance of the loan portfolio

  • Maintain borrower credit files in a timely fashion

  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed

  • Contributes to growing / elevating the BMO and BMO Capital Market brand with a commitment to and presence in the community.

Coaching and Mentorship:

  • The VP will train a team of junior professionals (Analysts, Associates, Interns)

  • Provide oversight to Analysts/ Associates on management of existing assets.

  • The VP will act as a coach/ mentor to junior professionals through portfolio management and amendment requests

Qualifications:

  • Typically between 5 - 7 years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Undergraduate degree with focal areas of finance, economics, or accounting preferred with high academic achievement.

  • MBA, CFA or equivalent experience in financial services, accounting, or legal fields is desirable

  • Relevant sector experience in power, utilities and infrastructure

  • Experience working in a regulated financial institution setting with a demonstrated strong understanding of organizational lending and portfolio management policies and objectives.

  • Displays advanced deal execution and/or project management skills - ability to manage more than one client / major initiative

  • Ability to create and deliver professional presentations.

Expected base salary for this role: $190,000.00 USD.

Compensation and Benefits:

The base salary represents BMO Financial Group’s hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked.

Base salary is one component of BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package for employees, which may include performance-based incentives, commissions or discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
