BMO Financial Group Vice President, Corporate Banking FIG Insurance in New York, New York
The Vice President will work for the Corporate Banking – Global Financial Institutions Group – Insurance Team, which has a global platform with a growing and dynamic presence in the U.S. combined with a very strong and stable presence in Canada. The Vice President will assume both a Portfolio Management and Relationship Management role.
The Corporate Banking Insurance team supports the origination and structuring of corporate lending transactions, and coordinates with other product teams as an integral part of a larger capital markets coverage team that maintains strong client relationships. The Corporate Banking team is responsible for completing credit due diligence in establishing and maintaining credit lines that are needed to facilitate Lending, Trade Finance, Cash Management and Trading transactions for Insurance clients.
Prepares credit documentation (i.e. including credit applications, underwriting memoranda, presentations, annual reviews, etc.) for internal and external stakeholders.
Directly manages a diverse portfolio of Insurance companies with progression toward increasing client responsibility.
Reviews and continually monitors performance of existing accounts and client relationships from both an ROE and credit quality perspective.
Provides deal structuring expertise and negotiates transactions with clients.
Applies appropriate Insurance technical concepts and completes/leads consistent and reliable technical and financial reports/analyses to support credit and client deliverables.
Completes due diligence and credit analysis on new and existing client relationships. Includes client visits, analysis of business models, and comprehensive review of industry trends and related regulations.
Breaks down strategic problems, and analyses data and information to provide insights and recommendations.
Understand complexity of transactions and related risk (credit, market, operational, legal/compliance, etc.).
Balances the Bank's risk appetite with the client needs in making recommendations/ proposal.
Integrates information from multiple sources to enable more efficient processes, enhanced analysis and/or streamlined reporting.
Reviews and guides work of Analysts and Associates to deliver business and credit results.
Considers risk, internal controls and compliance as part of day-to-day accountabilities and adheres to policies and procedures.
Exercises judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules.
Works independently and regularly handles non-routine situations.
Identifies opportunities for increased efficiency and improved service to internal and external clients.
Acts as a positive change agent to drive improved efficiency and effectiveness.
Contributes to growing / elevating the BMO and BMO Capital Market brand, particularly within the US and Canadian Insurance industry.
Operates as key member of the deal team with efforts to maximize Insurance sector penetration and returns.
Institutes cross-selling initiatives to increase ranking with client.
Creates pitch books for clients with respect to financial solutions and participate in their presentation to clients.
Monitors client, client industry and regulatory agencies for potential changes which may affect client’s portfolio and business needs.
Understands the needs of Insurance clients and provides relevant ideas and opinions to generate recommendations.
Collaborates with sector coverage partners to cover clients and prospects and to identify/ deliver creative, timely solutions.
Builds positive client relations through deep/comprehensive understanding of Insurance client needs and alignment of our products/services.
Identifies and leverages key decision makers and influencers in client / internal organizations.
Interprets client strategy and anticipates needs to deliver solutions.
Maintains awareness of all firm products and services offered and facilitates means of receiving continuous updates.
Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree with focal areas of finance, economics, or accounting preferred with high academic achievement.
Preferred MBA, CFA or equivalent experience in financial services, accounting, or legal fields.
Minimum of 5 – 7 years of relevant experience in covering the Insurance segment from a corporate or commercial banking and lending perspective, including credit underwriting, transaction structuring, and client management within the Insurance sector.
Displays advanced deal execution and/or project management skills - ability to manage more than one client / major initiative.
Ability to create and deliver professional presentations.
Strong analytical skills, with expertise in Insurance credit analysis.
Deep knowledge and technical proficiency gained through extensive education and business experience.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
