BMO Financial Group Vice President, Algorithmic & Automation Risk in New York, New York
The VP will deliver Algorithmic and Automation Risk capabilities with People, Process and Tools. As the proportion of trading executed electronically continues to increase across all asset classes at BMOCM, the VP will ensure a portion of this global capability will be leveraged across all jurisdictions in which BMOCM operates. This function will also centralize all algorithmic related practices (operating procedures, inventories, certifications, adjudication of alerts, executive reporting and regulatory liaison).
Execute the Capital Markets Algo Risk (AR)’s mandate through the following responsibilities:
Provide monitoring of algorithmic trading activity that is independent of the trading function
Identify market conduct risks that are presented by algorithmic trading and work in partnership to resolve until completion
Support the development of effective reporting and management information to senior management
Contribute to the BRS governance process on algorithmic trading including testing and deployment of algorithms and trade controls
Collaborate with stakeholders to improve the governance on algorithmic trading
Develop and maintain an algorithm repository, across all asset classes, by jurisdiction, ensuring all pertinent documentation (e.g. business case, test results, certifications, etc). are kept up to date
Provide subject matter expertise during certification and annual recertification meetings by presenting evidence of algorithm operability within established parameters and/or any variance
Execute ad hoc deliverables within given timelines
Communicate effectively (verbal and written) at all levels of the organization, including desk heads, capital markets management, and regulators including writing communications and running calls and meetings
Ongoing self-study about GM, Capital Markets, emerging regulatory and industry issues, BMO business priorities, and best practices
Undergraduate degree, graduate degree preferred
6+ years’ experience in capital markets, or related experience
Specific expertise within Capital Markets and/or complex financial institutions
5+ years of financial markets experience across capital markets including exposure to trading venues, investment firms specialized in electronic trading
Dedicated electronic trading/algorithmic control and oversight experience
Expertise on algorithmic trading governance combined with a highly detailed understanding of the CDN, US, the UK and European regulatory environment including, but not limited to MiFID II
Proven ability to partner, influence and effectively collaborate with multiple stakeholders across the firm on complex, confidential and sensitive issues
Strong experience with databases, web development, server applications, and large code bases
Advanced expertise in data, data analysis and related infrastructure
