The purpose of this role is to support the I&CB Corporate Banking lending line of business’ ability to execute the 1st line of defence accountability for portfolio and risk management activities, and for the efficient functioning of the LOB. As an integral part of the team, the Business Analyst, Corporate Banking assists the Corporate Bankers by taking responsibility for the operation of certain key business processes, and by responding effectively to customer and banker requests. Responsibilities include operational functions such as client onboarding, portfolio maintenance activities, and risk reporting requirements.

Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in business/business administration or other equivalent post-secondary diploma, with 1- 2 years related work experience

  • Understanding of accounting principles and various types of financial statements a plus

Key Accountabilities

AML/Client Onboarding Requests

  • Initiate requests for new deal set-up. Input new client/new product information in client onboarding system and interface with the Client Onboarding (COB) group

  • Initial review of AML checklists, track changes and coordinate completion of annual reviews. BA will review AML analyst changes and ensure checklist is correct before sending to banker for approval.

Portfolio Activity and Maintenance

  • Monitor and track quarterly and monthly financial covenant and trigger processes for on-time completion. Review status report mid-month and communicate with Bankers in advance of 30-day grace period.

  • Manage legal documentation and compliance exceptions with Banker and client

  • Complete Administration Forms for syndicated deals

  • Assist with Agented deal requirements (e.g. quarterly lender call set-up, timely posting of financial and compliance documentation to deal sites, etc.)

  • Pull Moody’s and S&P reports and maintain databases used for trigger monitoring

  • Complete other portfolio monitoring (e.g. track receipt of EV approval post final forming of CAF, track annual review and rating alert due dates, etc.) as required by Corporate Banking team

  • Assist with set up and organization of quarterly high-risk loan meetings

  • Troubleshooting and error correction on the profitability reports to ensure revenues are correctly flowing and accounted for

  • Special projects as needed (i.e. remediation and other one-off requests)

Cash Management Support

  • Assist with regular monitoring or ad-hoc requests for information from the line of business for overdrafts, ACH utilization information; engage T&PS service professionals and bankers when appropriate

  • Complete audit requests from customers’ accounting firms and upload to Livelink; handle credit references

Credit Approval Support Functions

  • Assist Bankers in the credit approval process for new and renewed transactions via the preparation and population of the Credit Approval Folder (CAF). This would typically entail setup of new or updated client information in the lending system application and downloading relevant files for inclusion

  • Other duties (eg. relevant industry data) as required

Risk Reporting

  • Lead efforts on preparing and tracking internal pipeline reporting for various internal limits including Capital Markets Sponsor Cap, Covenant Lite limits, Direct Lending partnership, etc.

  • Involves reviewing system generated reports for accuracy and augmenting with pipeline activity

Risk Management & Control

  • Within the mandate of this role, promote, adhere and support the Bank’s risk culture; lead by example.

  • Within the mandate of this role, maintain internal controls to support management decision-making that protects our assets and adheres to applicable corporate policies, operating directives, laws and regulations (including risk, compliance, and AML).

Authorities

  • Provides advice and guidance to the bankers on standard operating procedures and adherence to corporate guidelines

  • Requests information and action from operational support groups

Scope and Impact

  • Provides support for the substantial I&CB Corporate Banking Leveraged Lending portfolios of 100 relationships of highly leveraged loans

  • Maintains individual and process efficiency, productivity and quality

  • Performs all responsibilities according to established service levels and procedures/guidelines

  • Ensures client satisfaction through a high level of customer service and professionalism, adhering to policies and procedures
