BMO Financial Group Senior Analyst, Conflict Clearance in Naperville, Illinois

Key Accountabilities:

  • Assist in a variety of capacities relating to governance issues, operational risk management, compliance, AML, and business administration.

  • Assist in the execution of the global I&CB conflict clearance function: Maintain accurate records of client transactions, issues cited, and outcomes.

  • Identify potential issues and escalate to appropriate audience.

  • Assist management in resolving potential risk issues.

  • Track resolution activities and communicate outcomes to appropriate audience.

  • Document conflict clearance activities as appropriate.

  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with a sizeable and diverse user population of I&CB professionals.

  • Produce and distribute established/regular conflict clearance activity reports as determined by I&CB management.

  • Promote the use of the conflict clearance function through formal presentations or one-on-one meetings to achieve successful implementation across relevant I&CB product groups.

  • Work as a partner to I&CB, Compliance, Legal, and other groups on a variety of projects across the business.

  • Coordinate with Compliance on Grey List/Restricted List issues.

  • Perform client/counterparty due diligence at the request of Compliance or Legal related to historical I&CB relationships, pending activity, and current market M&A or capital raising intelligence.

  • Assist in the maintenance of Legal records such as Confidentiality Agreements/Non-Disclosure Agreements as necessary.

  • Assist management in handling audits, as well as in creating and implementing effective audit finding follow-up measures.

  • Authority to escalate issues to senior management to actively ensure risks to the business are effectively managed.

  • Authority to sign off on conflict clearance search results and additional investigations.

Cross-Functional Relations:

This role requires you to interact with the following processes and/or groups:

  • Investment & Corporate Bankers, at all levels from support to executive management

  • Individuals within other business groups (e.g. P&C, etc.)

  • Other CM Business Services staff (e.g. business analysts, technical support staff, etc.)

  • Compliance, Legal, Audit, and AML/OFAC

Role Scope and Impact:

This role has direct or indirect impact on the following:

  • Works with group leadership to ensure effective handling and administration of business activities.

  • Impacts the development of business opportunities for I&CB professionals.

  • Ensures that business opportunities do not pose undue risk to the company in a timely manner that meets the needs of the business.

  • Protects the organization from potential reputation risk issues.

Qualifications:

  • University degree/college diploma (business, finance, or related) or equivalent

  • 1 - 3 years of professional business experience, preferably within financial services industry

  • Banking or securities industry experience helpful

  • Explicit knowledge of MS Excel

  • Demonstrated comfort with other MS Office suite of applications (e.g. Outlook, Word, PPT)

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Well-developed problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Excellent organizational skills and detail-orientation

  • Ability to work independently, in a highly matrixed and confidential structure

  • Demonstrated adaptability and flexibility when working with a broadly defined, diverse user population

  • Ability to navigate difficult situations where a varied response toolset is required
