Supporting and reporting to the Managing Director, Strategy & Business Management for Global I&CB, this intense and diverse role is responsible for a high level of strategic, analytical and operational support. The role requires an individual who has superior analytical capabilities grounded in strong quantitative judgment, is an effective communicator, works as a team player, and possesses the highest level of integrity. The role also requires being comfortable presenting insight and analysis to very senior executives. The candidate must be very adept at interpersonal dynamics in managing matters that are both sensitive and confidential.

This role includes accountabilities for supporting, anticipating and managing both short and long term objectives/outcomes and maintaining a current understanding of Financial Institutions (FIG) specific performance objectives. The role also requires liaising with key internal stakeholders across a variety of functions and levels, and supporting the communication efforts for the Managing Director (i.e., internal presentations, regulators, industrial relations, media relations and public relations).

This position, identified as the "Business Manager for Financial Institutions Group"' is a member of the management team and helps support the implementation of key programs and/or initiatives, while establishing and developing strong relationships at all levels across the organization to support the effective execution on the businesses' mandate.

If required on occasion, the candidate must be able to travel to other BMO CM locations.

    Strategy and Operational Support

  • Through the annual planning process, collaborate with the Managing Director and direct reports and across other LOBs as required to plan/design and update individual LOB strategies in support of the BMO Capital Markets CEO Strategy process including accountability for the implementation of said strategies

  • Plan/design and develop integrated confidential reports and updates on key FlG performance objectives (both financial and non-financial objectives) and strategic initiatives as required to review with the Managing Director and their direct reports. Executive Committee and CEO direct reports as required

  • Support the Managing Director to develop, articulate and implement strategic plans and initiatives on an ongoing basis: take the lead in analyzing and preparing business cases for new initiatives Work with the Managing Director, Strategy & Business Management for Global I&CB to develop and align the LOB strategies with the I&CB Global strategy and to move forward global initiatives for I&CB

  • Update operating metrics and milestones including the identification of potential areas opportunity or concern for the Managing Director

  • Identify, support and track key issues relating to both financial and operational metrics for BMO Operating Committee and Executive Committees as applicable including internal (BMO CM Operating Metrics & Strategic Initiatives) and corporate trackers

  • Lead/support special projects as requested by the Managing Director, Strategy & Business Management Global I&CB in partnership with the business management team for Global I&CB

  • Drive reviews of strategic and business initiatives when issues and/or opportunities arise and provide recommendations on the optimal path forward

Business Delivery and Execution

  • Acts as the first point of contact for strategic, financial, and operational issues for the business

  • Identify issues, gaps and process improvements, address as authorized, and escalate as necessary

  • Take the lead on setting the agenda for regular meetings within the business, and for developing presentations and speech content

  • Interact with Risk Management to support the quarterly risk dashboard and risk control and assessment (RCA) process, and ensure that compliance, regulatory and other internal controls are complied with

  • Act as the key point of contact on Salesforce reporting and planning, and on other technology requirements, on behalf of I &CB Canada and International in partnership with the Global I&CB business management team

  • Interface with HR Business Partner on a variety of talent management related items

  • Manage a variety of operational issues for the business including but not limited to: relationship with Evalueserve; partnership with Marketing on client events and materials; administration and back office; space and real estate matters, etc.

  • Effectively manage complex and diverse issues that intersect with Fl/Trade Finance from across the LOB. across the bank and externally as required

Financials and Metrics

  • Primary interface with Finance for day to day issues. including structural and financial integrity of management reporting, FI/Trade Finance forecasting, business commentary and informational requirements, and expenses management and analysis

  • Prepare quarterly business commentary and Performance Committee slides

Client

  • Manage any client surveys from external providers and internal client audits

  • Collaborate with Business Intelligence on obtaining and analyzing critical client data as required by the business for day to day operations

  • Review and analyze reporting available on client data, and provide recommendations for updates or changes as required

Skills and Competencies:

  • Graduate degree, preferably an MBA or a minimum of a 4-year undergraduate degree with a focus on

  • Business, Economics, Finance/Accounting or other analytically based degree

  • Highly developed analytic and conceptual skills with ability to analyze data and develop key insights

  • Skilled in adapting their approach to the role as the requirements of the situation change and adept at seeking new and better ways of attaining goals

  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills including but not limited to: collaboration, facilitating consensus, resolution management including managing complex and sensitive issues

  • Confident in providing strategic insight and advice to senior executives

  • Highly organized with a proven ability to manage critical complex projects across many different functional lines

  • Specific experience in the area of strategy and financial modeling,

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, intense, ambiguous, executive environment

  • Work experience or further education in Business, Economics, Finance/Accounting required

  • Strong understanding of Capital Markets, Financial Institutions or corporate buy-side environment

  • Proven experience working on and successfully delivering complex projects
