Job Summary

An opportunity to join an exciting team transforming and modernizing the U.S. Payments consumer and Small Business credit card portfolios.

The Manager – Portfolio Performance and Insights will support portfolio strategies and analysis to drive card growth and optimization of BMO’s U.S. Payments consumer and Small Business creditcard portfolios. This role will report into the Director, Portfolio Management and Policy of U.S. Payments consumer and Small Business credit card portfolios.

Primary accountabilities include developing and managing performance diagnostic tools and dashboards to support decision making for the credit card and debit card product portfolios. Keyfocus areas include analyzing customer behavior trends and portfolio performance with a goal of generating insights, optimizing margins and driving sustained profitability.

Business Delivery and Operational Effectiveness

  • Manage the development of best-in-class portfolio diagnostic capabilities and dashboards, insightful portfolio tracking and management reporting to help the enterprise gain insights into customer behavior and credit card portfolio performance and to facilitate decision making and portfolio change recommendation

  • Support risk/reward optimization and customer engagement strategy that focuses on building cardholder balances, spend growth and channel engagement

  • Partner on business unit reviews with stakeholders ensuring accuracy and completeness

  • Partner with US Payments product leaders to identify and/or critically assess opportunities for balance building, product improvement, profit improvement, financial impact of initiatives/ strategic business decisions

  • Ensure collaboration with business and cross-functional partners across BMO and North American Retail Payments to resolve issues and solve problems, ensuring solutions are consistent, aligned and supportive of business and organizational goals

  • Manage analysis for strategic initiatives including but not limited co-brand card partnership deals and M&A

  • Conduct periodic review, analysis and benchmarking of peer banks and external vendor relationships

  • Manage 3rd party consulting vendor relationships

  • Manage regulatory reporting on portfolio metrics and performance

Risk Management and Control

  • Support first line of defense, such that portfolio models align to a defined risk-return target, enhance sales, and contribute to a great customer experience

  • Provide support to the Director, Portfolio Management and Policy to optimize risk/reward return envelope and ensure return on asset for portfolios are managed appropriately

  • Managerial Leadership

  • No direct report accountability but will be expected to partner with cross-functional partners across the enterprise

Qualifications

  • Typically between 5-7 years of related experience and/or post-secondary degree in related field of study.

  • Payments Industry-specific knowledge and experience is an asset

  • Strong communication and business writing skills

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft EXCEL, Powerpoint, Performance Dashboards e.g. Power BI

  • Knowledge of Computer Programming Languages an asset e.g. SAS

Scope & Impact

  • Supports profitability management for the entire US Payments portfolio ($0.5B in outstanding balances across Consumer and Small Business portfolios)
