BMO Financial Group Manager, Liquidity & Funding (Quantitative Strategy and Research) in Chicago, Illinois


The Manager of Quantitative Strategy and Research is responsible for day-to-day management of key analytics and reporting activities within the Capital, Funding & Liquidity (“CFL”) team within US Corporate Treasury. The manager must coordinate amongst both internal and cross-functional teams to pull, analyze, and socialize a variety of data, assumptions, and outputs of liquidity metrics. The Manager will lead the development of new assumptions, tools, and process to improve the efficiency, quality, and granularity of reporting to meet internal and regulatory requirements. The Manager must develop strong relationships across lines of business to facilitate greater understanding of their impacts to liquidity metrics, stress testing, and overall financial health of the US operations


  • Assist in the identification of potential sources of stress (e.g. product features, counterparty behaviors and concentrations, contractual risks, etc.)

  • Assist in the development of liquidity stress assumptions and documentation (per Reg YY and Reg WW)

  • Assist in development and maintenance of Liquidity and Funding governance documents and operating procedures

  • Provide oversight of intraday liquidity risk management initiatives including:

  • Intraday stress testing

  • Wire throttling and prioritization
  • Limit setting and monitoring

  • Develop dashboards for liquidity risk position tracking (i.e. Spotfire of Qlikview reports)

  • Identify key drivers of liquidity risk metric volatility

  • Implement procedures to track and report key changes over time

  • Support projects throughout the organization acting as a subject matter expert on liquidity to assist where needed

  • Assist in the monitoring and measurement of LOB liquidity risk positions

  • Assist in ensuring the capture of all material liquidity risks within departments
  • Provide data to risk, auditors, and regulators in response to inquiries into company's calculation of LTP
  • Support of senior management and ALCO committee - provide reporting and supporting analysis of liquidity data and metrics topics as needed



  • Experience, either:

  • 4-6 years in financial analyst/manager role, preferably in Finance or Treasury, or

  • 2-3 years in financial analyst role, and recent/future grad from master’s program

  • Deep understanding of the function as outlined, and of related industry best practices

  • Expert knowledge of bank funding management, including rules and regulations

  • Expert knowledge of financial analysis and modeling

  • Able to apply designation/education and financial experience in a financial services organization

  • Prefer one or more of the following: CPA, CFA


  • Strong Proficiency in SQL

  • Knowledge of SAS or Python is a plus

  • Ability to work independently

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Ability to multi-tasks and meet timelines without compromising the integrity of the information

  • Ability to influence others to accomplish assigned tasks

  • Comfort and experience dealing with internal auditors, regulators, external parties, etc.

  • Creative and conceptual thinker

  • Excellent judgment
