The Director U.S. Credit Card Acquisition is responsible to lead the team that is accountable for defining, developing, aligning, and implementing the overall strategy for Consumer and Small Business Credit Card Acquisitions and Early Month on Books in the U.S. This includes acquisition in all channels (Branch, Internet, Third Party Direct Response, Direct to Customer, Contact Center, Digital), across all customer segments, and across all card types including Consumer and Small Business Credit cards. As a member of the North American Leadership team, the Director US Credit Card Acquisition contributes to the overall US Retail and Small Business Payments strategy. The Director has accountability to enable the sales force to effectively sell, fulfill on the sale of credit card products including improving the customer experience and responsibility for key P&L drivers.

This includes development, implementation and accountability for the risk management strategy, adjudication and initial credit limit assignment strategy within the credit risk parameters, integrated channel strategy across all channels and across all customer segments – ensuring tight alignment with BMO Harris Channel and Segment strategies & activities. The Director Credit Card Acquisition is accountable to establish implement and manage a framework and system for driving new Consumer and Small Business payment acquisitions to build U.S. Personal & Business Banking, with a goal of positioning BMO Harris at the top tier level in the marketplace.

Additional accountabilities include the development of the marketing strategy for cards acquisition, acquisition offers and campaigns, including Early Month on Books communications, that drive acquisition and activation, awareness and requires advanced US industry understanding of product, marketing including digital acquisition. As a direct contributor to the achievement of P&BB U.S.’s overall revenue objectives, the Director Credit Card Acquisition will work with partners (within the group, across the enterprise, and externally) to negotiate, develop, implement, and maintain initiatives that generate new accounts and achieve annual revenue, market share, and profitability goals. The Director, Credit Card acquisition will also carry out market research, own the accounting forecasting process, complete competitive analysis to help develop offer strategies that position BMO Harris for success.

The Director will also manage product risks in compliance with legal, regulatory, and risk compliance, and reporting. Collaborates with internal partners across the enterprise to take products to market.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • 9+ years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in Business or a related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Deep expertise with consumer credit applicable to retail and business financing products and specifically credit card

  • Strong experience working with retail and business product fundamentals, including product design, functionality, and related policies and procedures

  • Strong knowledge of product delivery infrastructure systems and underlying product interdependencies.

  • In-depth retail and business banking environmental awareness / understanding.

  • In-depth risk management associated with new and existing product development and management.

  • Strong knowledge of process coordination and management.

  • Experience Building business cases, researching market trends developing go to market strategies and demonstrates strong negotiating skills with both internal and external partners

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form with strong analytic and problem solving skills

Business Planning

  • Develop, implement and manage a strategy, framework, and system for driving acquisition in order to build and grow a US Personal & Small Business Payments franchise

  • Makes strategy and new initiative recommendations to senior leaders on strategy and new acquisition initiatives, based on an in-depth understanding of the business/group.

  • Own, establish and deliver against annual acquisition targets in the US for all Consumer and Small Business Credit Card types and across all channels of acquisition

  • Own and deliver a credit origination strategy that delivers against all key acquisition metrics such as: Approval Rates; Activation Rates; First-Use Rates; Cost Per New Account; NRS, and Balances

  • Responsible for developing and implementing an Early Month on Book strategy that drives key performance metrics

  • Responsible for providing strategic leadership, design and development and implementation for key initiatives that support acquisitions for the US Payments business, delivering annual goals and tracking key metrics

  • Provide vision, leadership, and strategy to deliver on the strategic Consumer and Small Business credit acquisition roadmap

  • Closely work, assist, and support Sales and Distribution channels to ensure effective programs are developed and implemented with competitive strategy and attractive propositions for acquisition

  • Develop and execute a diverse channel strategy to drive acquisitions

  • Partner with Marketing, Credit Risk and other key partners on strategies and implementing programs and activities for Credit Card acquisition

  • Identifies emerging issues and trends to inform decision-making.

  • Recommends business priorities, advises on resource requirements, and develops roadmap for strategic execution.

  • Manages resources and leads the execution of strategic initiatives to deliver on business and financial goals.

  • Supports the execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Conducts independent analysis and assessment to resolve strategic issues.

  • Develops business cases by identifying needs, analyzing potential options, and assessing expected returns on investment

  • Breaks down strategic problems, and analyzes data and information to provide insights and recommendations.

  • Monitors and tracks performance, and addresses any issues.

  • Leads change management programs of varying scope and type, including readiness assessments, planning, stakeholder management, execution, evaluation and sustainment of initiatives.

  • Leads/supports contract negotiations with vendors and external partners, balancing cost, risk, and performance.

  • Understands and oversees end-to-end customer experience that may include interactions with clients and sales.

  • Applies expertise and thinks creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations and to find solutions to multiple, interdependent, complex problems.

Operational Effectiveness

  • Oversee successful completion of all work executed by internal and external parties (on time, on budget, and ensuring quality)

  • Manage and take responsibility for controlling and monitoring products/program implementation with proper tracking report and analysis – dashboards should be shared with proper stakeholders on a monthly basis
