As the Banks first line of defense the Underwriter is responsible for affirming credit recommendations provided by Banks ALD system for 3rd party Conditional Sales Contract (CSC) applications. This role will execute effective and consistent underwriting processes for Auto, RV and Marine (CSC) loan applications. Underwriters apply their own discretionary lending authority or provide rational, mitigation and underwriting recommendations of ALD decisions to Quality Managers or Regional Credit Officers to ensure safe and sound lending practices. All manual approvals require risk mitigation based on a 5 C`s of credit assessment (character, credit, capacity, capital and collateral).

  • Affirms credit recommendations provided by the Banks ALD system and validates information submitted as part of the application process

  • Reviews Turn Down Hard Decline (TDHD) and Turn Down Recommended TRHD lending transactions that require one level up review and provide sound recommendations to the Quality Manager

  • Provides support to Funders with accurate and timely information to ensure efficient processing, client satisfaction and to meet or exceed SLA’s

  • Provides first contact resolution of 3rd party Referral source inquiries and escalations. Manages escalations, providing clear and concise rational for credit decisions

  • Ensures data integrity for investigation, analysis, appropriate mitigation, recommendation, and terms and conditions of lending transactions

  • Makes decisions on personal lending transactions within delegated authority, ensuring decisions are in accordance with sound credit granting principles and in compliance with Bank policy

  • Acts in full compliance with all Bank policies, directives/procedures and external regulations to protect the Bank’s assets.

  • Adheres to all Service Level Agreements and performance guidelines.

  • Works with colleagues across multiple businesses/groups


  • Typically between 3 – 5 years of related experience and/or post-secondary degree in related field of study

  • Personal Lending Credit Qualified (CSC UDL)- credit limit of $75,000. Team is underwriting for deals up to $100,000; all deals are underwritten in this group and recommend for approval to either the Quality Manager or Regional Credit if over $100,000.

  • In-depth knowledge of CSC Product and Services

  • Promotes a strong risk management culture and prudent risk taking

  • CSC specific systems knowledge
